    Peach Julep

This julep is a sure bet on Derby Day.

    • 10-15 mint leaves
    • 1 ounce Brown Sugar Syrup
    • 3 fresh peach slices
    • 2 ounces Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey
    • Mint sprig (for garnish)

To a rocks glass, add mint, Brown Sugar Syrup, and peaches. Muddle until well combined. Add whiskey. Fill glass with crushed ice. Stir.

    Garnish with a mint sprig.

Although the Julep was created in the early 1700s, it first appeared in print in an 1803 book published in London by John Davis. Traditionally served in silver or pewter cups and held only by the bottom and top edges of the cup, the Julep did not become the signature cocktail of Churchill Downs until 1938.
