about The Authors

Katy Sparks has worked in and run some of New York City's most iconic kitchens, including Barry Wine's Quilted Giraffe, Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill and most recently Tavern on the Green. She was named a Best New Chef by Food and Wine and a Rising Star Chef by Wine Spectator and Restaurant Hospitality.


Alex Raij is chef and owner, along with her husband Eder Montero, of several popular New York City restaurants: Txikito, El Quinto Pino and El Comedor in Manhattan and La Vara in Brooklyn. Alex was voted Eater’s 2012 "Chef of the Year" and Bon Appétit named her among six ground breaking chefs in the feature, Women Chef’s: The Next Generation. 


Maneet Chauhan is the co-owner and executive chef of Chauhan Ale and Masala House in Nashville, a full-time judge on the Food Network's hit show "Chopped" and a James Beard Award of Excellence winner. 


Rita left a successful career as an international fashion executive to open I Sodi, her first restaurant in New York City, in 2008. Widespread acclaim quickly followed. In November 2014 she opened the much buzzed about Via Carota with chef Jody Williams. 

Kathleen’s work has spanned book, blog, newsprint and glossy, with hundreds of published works ranging from restaurant reviews to travel features to pop culture paperbacks. Before embarking on a freelance writing career, she spent 9 years working as a book editor.

Kathleen has written for The Wall Street Journal, Saveur Magazine,, National Geographic Traveler, Budget Travel, Gourmet, The New York Daily News, The New York Post and Time Out New York, among many others.

About The Photographer

Penny De Los Santos is an award-winning food photographer, known for her sensitive and evocative food, food culture and travel photography. Penny is a senior contributing photographer for Saveur Magazine and has photographed for cookbooks of many notable chefs including Pati Jinich, Steve Raichlen and Norman Van Aken. She has been traveled extensively throughout the US and to over 30 countries on assignment for various clients. She has been published internationally and has received numerous grants and fellowships for her work.
