At Alta Editions, we’re proud to share recipes from Katy Sparks in our forthcoming online cookbook, The Journey.
Katy’s recipes in The Journey follow her evolution into her own brand of chef—from her familial roots in academia to how having a son has changed her approach to food. Sparks began her college education at Middlebury College, but, instead, left and graduated with honors from Johnson & Wales University’s culinary arts program. She spent the beginning of her back-of-house career at some of Manhattan’s quintessential fine dining restaurants like The Quilted Giraffe, Mesa Grill, and Quilty’s. The chef took a step back from cooking in the professional kitchen in order to spend more time with her son, but looks forward to returning as an executive chef to a world famous landmark restaurant.
Katy’s experience as a parent heavily informs the recipes that she shares in The Journey: time, ease of preparation, and healthfulness all play an important role. Yet it’s Katy’s widely admired inventiveness and well-developed flavors that set these recipes apart.
In The Journey, you, as a cook, can look forward to these delicious recipes:
- Chickpea Polenta Frites with Sumac and Feta
- Grilled Butterflied Leg of Lamb with Garlic, Rosemary and Ancho Chile
- Mac and Five Cheeses with Cauliflower and a Pumpkin Seed Crust
- Maryland-Style Crab Cakes
- My Father's Favorite Orange Cake
